BlueBox Supports IT Equipment Exchange Across Five BCIT Campuses

Managing IT equipment across five campuses requires more than scheduled handoffs. BCIT is using BlueBox smart lockers to give IT teams and campus users a secure, flexible way to exchange technology equipment across its campus network.

As a preferred supplier for BCNET Digital Locker Systems, the BCIT deployment builds on BlueBox’s growing presence in British Columbia’s higher education sector. Bluebits has also worked with Okanagan College (OC), Vancouver Island University (VIU), North Island College (NIC), and Simon Fraser University (SFU), supporting applications ranging from IT equipment exchange to campus store pickup, package management and more.

Supporting IT Operations Across All BCIT Campuses

BCIT operates five campuses across Metro Vancouver in Burnaby, Downtown Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, and Annacis Island. Supporting users across multiple locations can make equipment handoffs difficult for a centralized IT organization. Laptops, replacement devices, accessories, and other technology equipment often need to move between IT teams and users, requiring both parties to be available at the same time.

BlueBox provides an alternative to scheduled, in-person handoffs. Authorized equipment can be placed in a secure locker compartment for collection, allowing users to retrieve items when convenient. The same system can also support equipment returns and other controlled internal exchanges based on BCIT’s operational requirements.

With BlueBox deployed across all campuses, BCIT now has the digital locker infrastructure that can support the exchange of these tech items in an efficient, contactless and convenient way.

Building on Higher Education Applications Across B.C.

The BCIT project adds to a growing range of BlueBox applications within British Columbia’s post-secondary sector.

At Vancouver Island University, BlueBox supports 24/7 IT and logistics equipment pickup and return. Employees can return equipment through the locker system while IT staff receive automated notifications, and users receive unique pickup codes when equipment is ready for collection.

Okanagan College has introduced BlueBox Pick-Up Stations across its campuses to support convenient order collection, while North Island College has also deployed pickup lockers across its institution.

At Simon Fraser University, BlueBox systems at the Vancouver and Surrey campuses support Facilities Services with internal parcel delivery, extended pickup access, and more efficient use of limited mailroom storage.

Together, these deployments demonstrate how smart locker infrastructure can extend beyond traditional parcel delivery. The same platform can support IT assets, bookstore orders, internal mail, library materials, course equipment, and other controlled pickup-and-return workflows.

Available Through BCNET

The BCIT deployment was completed through BCNET’s Digital Locker Systems agreement, which gives BCNET member institutions an established procurement path to BlueBox smart locker systems, including preferred member pricing.

Bluebits Technologies Inc. is the named supplier for Digital Locker Systems, making it easier for participating institutions to procure BlueBox for IT equipment exchange, internal logistics, and other secure pickup-and-return applications.

Our relationship with BCNET also reinforces Bluebits’ position as a B.C.-based technology provider supporting the operational needs of higher education institutions.

One Platform, Different Campus Needs

While BCIT is using BlueBox to support IT equipment exchange, the same smart locker infrastructure can serve a much broader range of campus needs. Across B.C. institutions, BlueBox is being used for applications including bookstore pickup, internal parcel delivery, equipment distribution, returns, and other secure self-service exchanges.

For institutions managing multiple campuses, departments, and user groups, this creates the flexibility to start with one application and expand into others as operational needs evolve.
